Gear Up For Eagles Football

O-Boy Eagles/Jacksonville

That O is for offense. I’m sure I’m not the only Eagles fan worried about the offensive line. The Eagles spent a lot of money for Jason Peters and Stacy Andrews in the off season and they have yet to get any snaps against a real opponent in the preseson. Throw in no Todd Herremans until the regular season, where is the continuity as a group going to come from ? Are we going to be waiting for regular season week 3 or 4 for this group to come together ? The Eagles have been high on Winston Justice and his great camp and preseason at right guard, which you would figure they would have to in order not to shake his confidence. This could all work in his favor and he could become a valuable piece down the line but this is not what most Eagles fans were hoping for out of the off season aquisitions. One would have to believe that the running game is going to suffer as pass blocking will become the priority with a group still coming together. I would not be surprised to see John Runyon signed before the start of the season at this point, if he is healthy.  He knows the plays, played with C Jamaal Jackson, and even if not a 100% is still going to be a nastier Tackle than Justice or King Dunlop. The Eagles like youth up front but like this is a no-brainer to me. Look for a lot of Max Jean-Gilles and Nick Cole in this game. These guys will need the playing time.

Which brings me to the quarterback situation in this game, with Andy Reid saying Mike Vick is “going to get some shots” this week, more likely to play a few quarters to test his conditioning. We all know Andy Reid will not show much of what he has in mind for Vick in the preseason. Couple that with the makeshift Eagles offensive line and an aggresive Jacksonville defensive front and we might see some nice burst of speed scrambles from

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle Seahawks

Mike V. There is also some competion for the last WR spot between veteran Reggie Brown and rookie Brandon Gibson, so we might get to see Vick throw down field some if he does play significant time. Gibson looked good in preseason but I’m rooting for Reggie Brown, he has the skills and size, if given the opportunity and if he can get a QB to throw him the ball he could catch 60-70 balls this year. I must say it’s getting easier not leading off with Mike Vick in my blog ! Does this mean the hype is wearing off a bit ? I don’t think so !

Keep your eye on the O this week !

Reggie Brown is history ! Maybe a 3rd round pick from the Jets or Washington, who both need a receiver.
